Self-Care Acts Black Women Should Apply Daily

With all the hard work we do and time we spend in taking care of our loved ones, sometimes we put our own needs on the back burner. We need to take a rest too. So if you have been hard on yourself lately, here are ways you can practice self-care daily.

Let me stress this out: Taking care of yourself does not have to be expensive. Sis, it's totally fine if you can't afford to indulge in luxurious vacations, treat yourself a soothing massage, or buy expensive clothes, shoes, and jewelry. I know sometimes we just want to purchase something or go somewhere beautiful and serene but keep in mind that self-care is not a one-time occasion that you should only do a few times a year. It should be a daily practice.

With all the hard work we do and time we spend in taking care of our loved ones, sometimes we put our own needs on the back burner. We need to take a rest too. So if you have been hard on yourself lately, here are ways you can practice self-care daily.

Create a list of all the things that you are thankful for.

This may sound so simple but this is effective in making yourself feel happier and more confident. List down the things that you are grateful for every single day. These could be people or events that have occurred in your life. This won't take up too much of your time. Just write a few things before you go to bed. Doing this can also help you forget any negative things that happened to you on that same day.

Work out.

Aside from health benefits, exercising daily even just moderate exercises that take 20 to 30 minutes, can improve your mood, reduce stress, help you sleep better, and make you feel happier. I hope you start doing this today. Trust me, it can make all the difference in your physical and mental health.

Don't feel guilty in saying "no".

We tend to always say yes just so we can't make people feel bad. But what about us? Did you feel good in saying yes? There are times that we are not in the mood for anything. We don't feel like moving or going somewhere or doing whatever. It is totally fine to say no. Don't feel guilty about saying no to any requests to your time and energy that don't align with your wants. You don't have to please everyone. And don't think you are being rude. If they care for you, they will understand.

Cut negativity off.

Don't let anything ruin your day. Cut the source of negativity off whether it is a person, a job, a habit, or anything. Protect your energy.

Set one day out of the week as your "me" time.

This is very important. Spending time with yourself doing what you want without thinking about deadlines and obligations can make a world of difference for your spirit. Watch movies all day, read books, cook meals, redecorate your room or anything that you want to do.

Meditation can relieve your burdens.

While indulging in a soothing massage at the spa can help you relax, you don't need to spend a lot of money to remove your worries and restlessness. Meditation is the key to a relaxing day. You can download a meditation app and focus on your breath. Being in touch with your soul can help you relieve your stress and the burdens of life.

Take care of your health.

Living a healthy lifestyle is paramount to happiness. Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, manage stress, and go for regular check-ups. You don't have to suddenly change your routine. Small changes will make a big difference so it is better to start today. Drink plenty of water, eat fruits and veggies, and take some rest.

Try new things.

It is time to get creative and try something different that you've never done before. Take yourself on a date, watch a movie in the theater alone, hike, join a sports club, try a dating app, anything! This will help you improve your self-awareness while enjoying new things.

Self-care is vital. Take a moment to appreciate what you have and make space for things that fill you with joy. How about you, what is one self-care tip you want to share with black women? Share it with us!
